Beauty And Chinese Medicine ...

Natural beauty.

Real beauty comes from both the inside and the outside. When someone has an engaging, alive and charismatic personality, combined with genuine kindness and caring. Someone who embraces life and has a smile for everyone. Then this regardless of their age, creates real attractiveness.

However on the other hand, if you have the most physically beautiful person, but they are cold, selfish and shallow, then all desire for them is truly lost. So remember if you want true beauty don’t just work on the outside but build love and happiness into your mind and soul as well.

In Chinese Medicine to work on the outside, we also have to work on the inside, but this time we are referring to our physical organs. For these provide our skin, nails, hair and complexion with all the nutrients, hormones and energy they need to keep them young, fresh and vibrant. They even help to give sparkle to our eyes.

To help our organs it comes back to the simple principle of strengthening our general health, through such things as good diet, sleep, moderate exercise and good mental and emotional well being...

Gentle and moderate exercises can be very helpful in keeping us younger, giving us an attractive appearance and providing good circulation to our skin, hair and face.

But be careful not to overdo it, more is not better, it will drain our nutrients, energy and weaken our hormones, especially in the long term.

Qi Gong and Yoga are particularly useful in slowing down ageing by encouraging high levels of energy in the body and preventing our hormones from being used up. They will also help us to deal with stress. And through their breathing techniques help us to cleanse the blood of toxins. The other obvious benefit exercise can provide us with, is its ability to help tone and shape our muscles.

As most of our regeneration of cells take place when we are asleep, it is obviously very important to get the best possible sleep you can. Getting to bed early before 11pm is essential. As the kidneys start to manufacture important regenerative hormones at this time and if you are still awake and active you will lose out on some of these.

Massage can be very beneficial to problem areas which seem to need extra attention. Gentle movements and also tapping and lightly patting these places can encourage circulation into them. Over time, extra blood and energy flow into these areas will build up and improve, giving a more healthy, toned and vibrant look.

Controlling emotions and remaining positive and happy is important too...

Stress, irritability, anger, worry, sadness, hatred, jealousy and other negative emotions will deplete your energy, nutrients and hormones rapidly, creating wrinkles and accelerating your aging. Stress will cause tension and tightness throughout the body, muscles and skin, which will also encourage the emergence of new wrinkles.

In terms of diet, it has obviously a major role to play in keeping the body in good shape. For starters it can help cleanse  impurities from the body. This can be achieved through the use of bitter green tea, fruit and juices. When the body is clean, we can reduce our consumption of these bitter detoxifying agents and then fill it with good plant oils, nuts and seeds which will help boost hormones and also moisten, lubricate and nourish the skin, nails and hair. We should also eat vegetables which will provide minerals and particles to cool, moisten and preserve the skin. White rice which will give energy to digest the vegetables and to power up our organs to provide good Qi and blood to our complexion. And small amounts of garlic, turmeric and plenty of peppermint tea to encourage circulation and movement of blood around our bodies and to the skin and hair.

Finally there are several things that we should avoid. As we know, cold slows down, congeals, thickens and preserves substances, just like are cool fridges preserve food. Whereas heat does the opposite. It speeds up and accelerates, it can burn and dry out moisture.

Now to have a certain amount of heat in us is very important, as it produces lots of energy, which helps to keep our organs active, alive and producing all that they should do for our minds and bodies. But if we start to overheat we upset the balance, we start to burn up and waste nutrients, leaving less than is required to keep us moist and fed. And in terms of aging we start to damage our cells. So in order to stay young and have a healthy glowing well nourished outward appearance we should make sure we are not taking in excessive alcohol, coffee, red tea and spices.

We should also avoid any overextended periods in the sun which can cook, dry and redden our skin. And also if we smoke then we should quit, smoking has been proven in many Western studies to significantly age the skin and body.

One other area to avoid is foods that create toxins such as sugars, fats and dairy. As they can also generate heat in the body and may lead to acne and other skin and complexion problems.
