The Professor's Coffee ... A Clever Little Tale ...

8/9/2014

( Reading Time – Approximately One To Two Minutes ).

A short wise story to think about ...

A group of friends, who were all highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old professor. The conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in their work and social lives.

Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to his kitchen and returned with a large pot of it and an assortment of cups. There were porcelain, plastic, glass, some plain-looking and even some expensive exquisite ones.

He suggested they help themselves to the hot coffee.

When all his ex-students had a cup of coffee in their hand, the smart old professor said:

“If you noticed, all the nice-looking, expensive cups were taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones.

While it is normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that too is the source of your problems and stress.

What all of you really wanted was the coffee, not the cup, but you consciously went for the better cups and were eyeing each other’s cups.”

“Now, if Life is the coffee; then the jobs, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain Life, but the quality of Life doesn’t change. Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to taste and enjoy the coffee in it.”
