He is part of an increasing number of animals being treated with Chinese Medicine at zoos all around the world.
For example, at Singapore Zoo, whenever Western medicines fail, Acupuncturists and Chinese Herbalists are called in to heal the sick animals there.
Just recently, an orangutan suffering from long term constipation was cured after drinking Chinese Herbs mixed into its honey drink for just one week. And a sedated cheetah received Acupuncture around its fractured leg to effectively reduce swelling.
The camel named Jewel, had been suffering for sometime with painful and debilitating arthritis. When conventional drugs and treatments failed, Acupuncture was suggested. After receiving treatments, her keepers have noticed much improvement in the way Jewel moves. She takes much larger strides and does not seem to be as much in pain anymore.
The swan had a serious infection on its foot which would not heal, but after weekly Acupuncture treatments, the foot is now better.
